We awoke to cold weather, and after a quick stop in town, and a stop at Rodrigo´s shop, we all packed up and headed south to run the Rio Llancurhue, a river that flows off the south side of Vulcan Via Rica. We put on the run in colder weather, for a short section that included a classic 20 ft. falls, and a three part gutter drop under a footbridge as some of the highlights. After we had our fill, we took out and packed the car to drive south to the Rio Fuy. We got in late and camped in the small town of Coshuenco on the lake Panguipulli. We went to bed with cold rainy weather.
In the morning we awoke to great weather, warm sun, and beautiful scenery. The group packed up and headed up the Fuy dranage, stopping to check out a scenic 90 foot waterfall on the middle Fuy, and to check to flow of the upper Fuy. The river was high, and we opted out of the upper, driving down to the lower bridge put in. The lower Fuy was classic, with a high pushy flow, crystal clear water, and big water rapids with a flow around 8000 cfs. We all enjoyed the run on a classic day in Chile. Following the river, we packed the truck and drove south to the rio Curringue, camping in a meadow next to put in.
This morning we woke up, and relaxed as Parkito hiked the 6 mile shuttle. We put in about 1:30, with the sawtooth Andes in the background, and floated down the 12km run of class 3-5, in one of the most scenic canyons we have ever been down. The run was classic, with big rapids, ranging from clean drops in a narrow gorge, to challenging class 4+ bolder gardens. The run had one mandatory class 5, which we all made it down, (some rightside up, some down). We took out with smiles and headed down the hill to the small town of Futorno.
